The most famous temple of “Swaminarayan Sect” the richest Sect in the world. The temple is built by pink stones with beautiful carving. It is surround by lush green gardens and admirable fountains. The monuments stands on 97 sculpted pillars, 210 single –piece stone are beams, 57 window grills, 17 domes, eight ornate zarokahs etc. The sanctum sanctorum contains a `.1 tone gold plated idol of Lord Swaminarayanown , the founder of the sect that bears his name. The 7-foot idol is shown in a sitting posture with his right hand raised in abhay mudra. He is flanked by Swami Gunatitanand on his right and Swami Gopalanad Swami on his left. Both of them were his disciples. Swami Gunatitanad is called Swaminarayan’s Akshardham the eternal abode. The show takes the visitors through various facets of Hinduism. The wisdom of the Vedas, the epics, the Purnas is depicted on a crowded canvas by the exhibition. So far millions of people have visited the monument since its inception on November 2, 1992. They have been able to savour the story of Hinduism and to imbibe the message of Universal peace and brotherhood.

Ambaji |

The shrine of the Goddess Ambaji located in the village bearing her name, lies at the foothills of the Aravalli mountain range. It is the principal shrine of the Goddess in Gujarat and their origins are lost in the mists of time. There is a reference to this location as far back as A.D. 746. The deity is represented by a triangular Vishwa yantra. She is an aspect of Goddess Parvati shiv’s consort Amba or Ambe Mata is shown riding a tiger during the Navratri celebrations. Navratri in Gujarat is comparable to the worship of Saraswati in Bengal. Large number of devotes visit the shrine during the Purnima fairs held on the full moon day of Kartik, Chaitra, Bhadrapad and also Navrati is celebrated on a grand scale here.
A short distance from Ambaji is the Gabbar Hill. It is said that the goddess revealed herself on the Hill and left her footprints. |

Dakor |
Dakor is a temple town sacred to Lord Krishna. Dakor is in Kheda district. Krishna here is worshiped as Ranchhodrai. He got the name as he pretended to escape from Kalyanvan, an ally of Jarasandh and finally got him burnt in Mt. Girnar. It came about this way Muchkund, asking who was tired after helping gods in their fight with demons was taking rest in a cave. He had a boon that anybody who disturbed him would be reduced to ashes. Krishna cleverly led Kalyanvan to the cave and brought about his end. Krishna image said to be the original from Dwarka, was brought here by a devotee and installed in the temple of Ranchodrai.
On every Sharad Puinama a big fair is held at Dakor. Gujaratis venerate Krishna and Dakor provides an important link in this.

Dwarka |
Dwarka, on the west cost of Gujarat on the shore of the Arabian Sea, features in most of the legends surrounding Lord Krishna. It is from here that the grown Lord Krishna is supposed to have ruled his Kingdom. Dwarka is significant pilgrimage site for the Hindus. |

Dwarka is sanctified as the place where Lord Vishnu slew the demon Shankhasura. Dwarka which is known as Suvarna Dwarka(the golden Dwarka) had been very prosperous and hence got the name . The Dwarkadish temple honors Krishna Bhagwan and attracts thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country. The Dwarka of Krishna's time lies submerged under the Arabian Sea. Krishna's residence was at Bet Dwarka which is an island, a few kms from the mainland Dwarka Bet contains as Sudhama shrine. Marine archaeologists have excavated a huge wall which is supposed to be a part of Krishna's capital.
The other temples in Dwarka are Rukmini Devi Temple, Gomati Ghat Temples, Kalyanrai temple, the Patrani temple, Durvas temple . Sharda pith set up by
Adi Shankaracharya imparts instruction in Sanskrit. Drukvan in the region is one of the Jyotirlingas.

Girnar |
Mt Girnar is a cared hill both to the Hindus and Jains. The Jains call it Mt. Neminath. According to traditional history, Siddhas have used it as a retreat to undertake tapasya since ancient times. The pilgrims have to climb 4000steps to reach the top. There are five important Jain temples, besides several Hindu shrines. The greatest them all is the Neminath temple built from 1128 to 1159 CE Neminath (the 19th Tirthankar) is carved in black marble with jeweled eyes. The courtyard is filled with sculptures. Further up is the amba temple. A newlywed who seeks Mataji's blessings for a happy married life frequents it.
The Mallinath temple dedicated to the 22nd Tirthankar was constructed by the Vastupal & Tejpal in 1231CE. The Rishabhabdev temple in golden colour has 24 tirthankars. The Parshwanth temple was built in the 15th century. It is know as Mervasi. The Dattareya hill is half way down the temple cluster. There is also a Muslim shrine here which is frequented by childless couples. The Damodar Kund at the foot of the Girinar Hill in Junagadh is a sacred spot for the Hindus.

It is best to start the climb in the morning. Bhavnath shiv temple is the first shrine on the upward path, Bhartruhari cave, Sorath Mahal, Bhim Kund and suryakund are the other important places. Gomukkhi Kund has pellucid water fed by a mountain stream. Hanuman Dhara and Kamandal are the other kunds. |

Mahudi |
|
Mahudi in Mahesana district is on the bank of Sabarmati and at it is dedicated to Vir Ghantakarna Mahavir. Ghantakarna means one with large bell shaped ears. It is traditionally believed that people with such ears can bring prosperity to their flowers and devotees by destroying all evil influences. The deity is show with a bow and arrow. Devotes believe that he will destroy all evil forces with the bow and arrow and protect them against all calamities, both natural and man-made. He will also protect from illness and asuric forces. The place is famous as muni Buddhisagarji undertook prolonged penance here and inspired devotes to build temple . Before that it was a wilderness. Devotees offer “Sukhadi”, coconut and flowers to the deity. The Sukhadi has to be eaten in the temple premises itself and the devotees are prohibited from taking it out. |

Narayan Sarovar |

Narayan Sarovar is Kutch District. Is one of the five holy lakes for Hindu Pilgrimage. The others being the Mansarovar in Tibet, Pushakar Lake in Rajasthan, Bindusagar in Bhubaneshwar and Pampasarovar in Karnataka. It is very ancient and hallowed Spot on the western most of India. The Karachi port lies opposite it . On a clear night the lights of Karachi could be seen. There is an important Vishnu temple near the lake and pilgrimage to Narayan Sarovar can be combined with the Shiva temple of Koteshwar by the Sea. Pavagadh |
Pavagadh hill is scared due to Goddess Mahakali, residing on its highest peak an important place of Pilgrimage in Panchmahalss district. The hilltop shrine is near Baroda and 160kms from Ahmedabad The 2500=foot hill contains a temple of Kali Mata. Pavagadh means quarter of a hill, thousands of Pilgrims visit Pavagadh every year. Godess Kali, was invoked and installed in a shrine on the peak of Pavagadh by sage Vishwamitra and worshipped as a form of Durga or Chandi in her fierce and angry mood. The shrine contains idol of the goddess which shows only the eyes painted in red colour. There is also a yantra which is also worshipped.
Other places worth seeing are Makai Kotar (maize granaries), Navlakha Kotar or nine lakh granaries, on the top of the hill is Sadan shah's tomb.
An added attracation to the pilgrims is the ropeway which goes over the valley presenting a beautiful view.

Somnath |
|
Somnath temple is on the Saurashtra cost in Junagadh distict is an important place of pilgrimage for followers of both Shiva and Vishnu. Somnath is the site for one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and one of the twelve most sacred Shiva shrines in India. According to the legend, Somnath is as old as creation, built by none other than the Moon God himself. Somnath was destroy and rebuilt several times. The latest temple was built in phases from 1950 onwards. Mehmud of Gazni having heard of its fabulous treasure, raided it in 1026 and carried away camel-loads of jewels and gold.
The pinnacle rides to a height of 155 feet. The kalash atop the shikkar weighs 10 tones. The flag-mast is 37feet long. These details give an idea of the size of the temple. The temple is so situate that there is no land from here to the South Pole. An arrow indicates the direction. |

Surya Mandir |

The Sun temple of Modhera is one of the finest examples of Hindu temples as architecture in Gujarat is the Sun temple of Modhera. Built in 1026 Ad, by King Bhimadeva of the Solanki dynasty, the temple is dedicated to the Sun God. It stretches upto 250 ft. in an east west axis. The temple is so situated that the rays of the rising sun fall into the innermost sanctum. The temple has brick base and stone-facing embellished with elaborate moldings. Every inch of the temple edifice, both inside and outside is magnificently carved with Gods and Goddesses, birds, beats and flowers. Every year a dance festival is held in honor of the Sun God. The festival rivals the Konarak festival of Orissa. |
