This palace was built in the 1850s as a garden bungalow by a German architect and was developed over the years. In the late-1980s, Emerson who built the Victoria memorial at Kolkata also worked on buildings in Bhavnagar. The Palace is a set in 10 acres of gardens which act as a façade against the busy main road outside. Inside is a lobby with antique furniture, gilded ceilings and life-size ancestral portraits leading to a marble tiled courtyard. The dining hall has European chandeliers, carved burma teak furniture, and Belgian-gut mirrors. The jewel in the crown is the swimming pool designed like a Roman Bath. |
